About Me

I failed out of university in my first year at age 19.

That is not the usual opening for a CFA charterholder’s biography, but that failure shaped everything that followed. I went back, and over the years earned three degrees, among them an MPhil in Economics from Cambridge. At age 26, I began the CFA Program, and in 1999 earned the CFA charter, passing every level at the first attempt.

Over two decades in investment and finance followed, across several countries. Alongside that work, I taught the CFA curriculum to thousands of candidates, and became known for knowing every corner of the material. For one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, I served as the in-house CFA Level III instructor, entrusted with bringing its own people through to the charter. For more than ten years I have also worked in digital assets, a field that has kept me close to how quickly markets, and the knowledge they demand, can change despite how little attention the CFA Program gives to cryptocurrencies and fintech.

After some years away from the classroom, I returned to the work I find most meaningful: sitting with one person at a time and helping them through the hardest part of the journey. I know the CFA curriculum as well as anyone. I also know what it is to fail, and to go on anyway.

Today I work privately with a small number of CFA candidates and charterholders, on retainer and in confidence.

I am not on LinkedIn or any other social platform, and that is a deliberate choice. Social platforms are built to hold your attention; on social media, the users are the product. I would rather spend my time creating things that last and genuinely help, such as carefully written constructed response questions that candidates can return to again and again, rather than posts that vanish in a scrolling feed. Much of my work is about helping people cut through noise, and I cannot do that well while adding to the noise.

If you have found your way here, you have already done the hard part. Everything I offer is on this site, and you can reach me directly.
